The Secret Garden 2008
We were lucky to recieve and award of £100 from the Devon Gardens Trust Primary Schools Project to use in improvements to our gardens. One of our goals for our school is to attract as much wildlife into our grounds as we can. One of the ways to do this has been to put up some nesting boxes to attract the birds. The best place to site the bird boxes is the secret garden as it is surrounded by lovely trees. We contacted the wildlife trust and they sent instructions on how to build the bird boxes. The bird feeder started to attract the birds within and hour of it being put up. After about a month we noticed activity around the bird boxes, a closer inspection revealed that a great tit had moved in and was in the process of building itself a nest. A week later as we were working in the garden we noticed that a blue tit had taken up residence in another box, both went on to raise chicks. We hope all four boxes will be in use next year.
More coming soon..................
